Preserving the memory means you've got to deal with ...

The time, the hassle & the stench.

The hunt was great. You shot just what you set out for. Now it’s time to preserve the memories … time to showoff that trophy.

But do you really want to deal with the stench, the dirt and the hassle? What about all those weathered and faded antlers you have lying around? That’s where I can help you preserve those memories.

A Licensed Taxidermy Shop

Specializing in European Mounts

My name is Micah Skaggs, owner of a licensed taxidermy shop without the traditional shoulder mount taxidermy practice. I specialize in European mounts. These mounts are completely cleaned with meat eating beetles, known as dermestid carpet beetles or “dermestis maculatus beetle.”

Your Taxidermist

My name is Micah Skaggs and I love being a taxidermist. I did my first European mount when I was 13. Progressively through the years I’ve done heads for family and friends and I soon realized I could make a career out of it.

At the end of the day, I love being able to help preserve a memory of a great day in the woods.

Common Questions

Whether you’re looking to have your first skull cleaned or it’s your 100th trophy, you probably have questions. Here’s some of the most common questions, but if there’s not something listed here, let me know and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

It all depends on how you bring the head in, prepared by you/prepared by us/skinned only, and if you want it whitened or left with the natural color. See my price chart.

3-6 month turn around time. This variation of time will depend on what part of the year you bring your skull in. September-February is our busy season while March-August will have the faster turn around time.

We do our best to extract every bit of smell out of the head during its cleaning process.

We accept all heads no matter how they smell, look or what’s on them.

Skull Cleaning

The Process

First we will meet and go over what you would like to have done and approximately how far out on the schedule a start time will be.  Once it’s time to begin, the head is prepared for the beetles to eat on it which takes a few days.  I try to let you know when this is just to keep you updated.  Next I degrease the head and, if you have chosen to have a whitening process, I put the head in a whitening solutions for a few days.  Finally, the head gets a final soap cleanse and I’ll call you to arrange delivery or pick-up.
